A gauge that gives drivers an instant green rating will be fitted to all new Nissans.
The company announced today that a fuel efficiency gauge will be built into the instruments on all its future models and will be added to some current models when they're facelifted. The gauge gives two readings, showing the current and the average fuel consumption.
Nissan's own trials have shown that drivers tend to get into more frugal habits when they're made aware of the effect their driving has on their car's thirst. 4Car had exactly the same experience when we drove a car rigged up to give a detailed analysis of the consequences of every touch of the accelerator and brake.
Nissan says the smoother acceleration and braking prompted by the gauge typically results in a 10% fuel saving.
