Sh*t; knew it had to be too good to be true.

Lately, Behringer gives peak power's for their PA's. I saw some discussions in other forums that the listed power divided by 1.414 is the Root Mean Square, which makes sense since I've seen that formula in my circuits class. Not really all too enthralled with most of the power amps I've seen. Guess I'll stick with my power supply idea and obtain a TDK Genesys sometime next year. Hey, I only hated the area I grew up in New Jersey; not the whole state. I'll be glad to pay some homage to Neptune.

Got a nice ported alignment ready from winISD. 2.5 cu. ft after displacements, 18 Hz tuning freq, and 22 Hz half power freq. ~112 dB @ 20 Hz, Xmax is 25 mm @ 27 Hz. Going to be heavy as f#@k but its gonna be our own personal Imax. Another bonus, lots of good movies released next year.

As far as a big system for my next car, I think I'm gonna pass. While it would be nice to get a custom job alternator, that's literally money lost at resale so I'm inclined to keep the high power stuff in the RV with a power supply. I'll just keep my current set up now for my next car so I can avoid electrical upgrades.

At this point, if my next ride has 50k to 60k mi on it, that's fine. I'll probably pick up the ride before getting a high power Zap. I'm intereted in seeing if Zap does a 3rd Gen with the DC's. I'm not entirely clear if the DC's phase is adjustable in 45 degree steps and the Z8 is adjustable in 15 degree steps. It'd be nice if a 3rd Gen DC had continuously variable phase. That'd be legit; I'd legitimately be all about that bass, LOL!

Like I said in the beginning; this is going to be a long @$$ project, LOL!

Nas, my apologies for the delay in the correspondence I had with Russell; I'll just keep checking emails to see if he responds back.

    Botched Idea

There's too much interference from the charger on the battery with the temp setup; taking it back to Wal-Mart tomorrow. I'll save some $ for the next couple months and get the power supply. In the meantime, I can put the REA XX and the JL 1200/1v3 in my car; just got to power down everything if its raining or dark out, one lil' caveat, LOL. Works good when the clamps are not on the battery, though.

    First Phase Completed

REA XX v2 12 D4 ported wedge is done; 2.7 cu. ft, Fb is 23.4 Hz, & F3 is 22 Hz. Not the loudest ported alignment; only 1.5 dB gain @ 29 Hz, but good for longevity of the suspensions. Put on a gasket around the circumference of the cut out, dropped the 59 lb beast in, but my middle finger got stuck between the cut out and the mounting flange. Fortunately, my father was working on a poor ground connection in my car. Together we managed to haphazardly hoist it off. Didn't scratch up anything; the NBR is pretty resilient stuff. Woulda been devastating to lose my middle finger; it's so useful when I am f*cking with tailgaters when I'm driving, LOL!

Another thing occurred to me ... Bass I Love You is on my USB drive.. I had my infrasonic set to 25 Hz. My XX v2 was not going crazy with the super low flatulence in the song. Those people that upload 'Bass I Love You' Sub Porn have NO concept of setting their subsonics or infrasonics, LOL. Wow ... ironic, since those individuals will readily Google something to 'one-up' their teachers, professors, or parents whenever the latter tries to educate them on something. How f#cking hard is it to type subsonic filter in Google? LMAO.

It's late, I'll upload some images tomorrow; vids are out of the question. I've got crappy WiFi service for now so uploading will take forever.

    Peace

Here's some night shots; the images were better during the night.

Wouldn't be surprised if the maintenance periods reduce them to pixel again; no problem. Didn't take too many images this time, anyway. I can easily upload them again if the aforementioned transpires.

This will be in my car until I pick up the TDK. Right now, got some employment agencies helping my job search. Also, I am on Monster constantly applying to CE and ME openings.

I was expecting this thing to be 150 lbs+, but it's actually 142 lbs. In other words, it weighs one Nikola Tesla. Coincidence?

Wow Kirk, that looks amazing! I really wish i could hear it in person.

Easy E's looks good too. I'm dying to install something in my car but it's suffering from water leaking into the cabin and has allsorts of condensation and water logging issues (not nice).

What are you doing for the front end? Do you already have components in mind/fitted or is that a possibility in the near future?

Once again, a big well done!

Well Nas, I can make that happen. Within the next year, I'll buy a everyday type Canon video cam from Crutchfield. I've been thinking, it would certainly nice for you to be able to hear my installs, so I'll honor what I said earlier. The YouTube channel might be up towards the end of this year or sometime next year. Although, comments disabled, LOL. Need to put my ASD OC's toward my job, math, and my hobbies; you understand that, LOL. I mean in school I would take frequent internet browsing breaks from burn out in my assignments, but anymore it just seems I'm killing brain cells in front of the monitor, LOL. Don't need to react to comments.

In North America, we're starting to see low freq mics become more abundant, so that could be some future purchase down the road for the channel. Don't know when, but the video cam is a MUST, NASA has predicted a solar eclipse visible in North America in 2017. I would like to see what I can find in the way of sun filters by then.

My Audi's pushing 150k mi; after my first year of work, I'll be scoping out Lexus and Infiniti. Used, 40 to 50k mi, 10,000 to 15,000 USD is fine. Not so sure with more upgrades with the Audi. Also not sure if I can install my Eclipse CD 5030 in the next car or be at the mercy of factory integration. Nonetheless, I would rather wait and improve the mids and highs in the next car.

Cynthia, who typed up my resume has been an invaluable resource for notification of job fairs in the Diego area. We're looking at managerial positions with new transit projects in the area. In the meantime, I've gone through 12 sections in my FE Practice Manual, so I will register for the FE again in April or May; slowly but surely, LOL. Once I pass, I'm eligible for the license. Wish I knew about the practice manual last summer, but I was using the time to recover from the Spring '14 semester. College wasn't so easy for a 29 year old with wrong sleeping meds and chronic insomnia (thanks to Calculus), LOL, me.

I've got about 5k USD set aside so when we get a lot in another park with 240 VAC service, I can pick up the power supply for the demo room. I don't recommend buying one, its cost is similar to a used car. I'm looking at the TDK Genesys 15-220, its programmable which is a plus. I'm obsessive compulsive from my ASD, I just think it would be neat to have a demo room in the RV, LOL. Practical for me is NOT practical for the next person, LOL. The specs are good; eta efficiency is 84% and the 230 VAC single phase power factor pF is 0.99, no line losses. 0 to 15 VDC and 0 to 220 A is nice for a couple of 1 kW class D's for some occasions; I know, I'm quite mad, LOL.

Anyway, Nas, sorry for the mini dissertation here. I'll keep you posted.

I had the same thing happen with my '95 Buick Regal back in 2003. Long story short, inherited it from my grandmom. Was in San Diego; my dad drove it back to NJ with a friend of his. Anyway, tree fell on it in a parking lot while she was in church. Another incident, she mistaken the accelerator as the brakes and drove it through a post office.

My aunt and uncle on my father's side of the family helped grandmom with the repairs, but they're the biggest cheap skates in the world. Repairs were somewhat on the shoddy side. The gasket didn't form a good seal around the back window, and water had a direct passage to the trunk. Fortunately, all I had at the time was a cheapy q-logic bandpass with two twelve inch sony aluminum Xplods in it. The amp was a nightmare to take care of, some 2002 volfenhag class ab, 320 W RMS x 2, with black chrome that stained hella nasty. My budget highschool system with the help of some of my paychecks from Pathmark; what a crappy place to work, LOL. Anyway, bought some clear silicone and sealed the leak in the gasket; problem solved.

In a word; my aunt's concern of my grandmom's welfare: SSA
The shoddy gasket work for the rear window: 0.5OOed, hahaha.

So ... Here's an image of the Audio Control line driver, distribution block, circuit breaker, and Knu Konceptz wire I bought last year.

    Name: Line Driver and Wires.jpg
Views: 128
Size: 142.9 KB

20 ft of 1/0 gauge Kolossus Fleks Kable and 20 ft of 8 gauge subwoofer wire. Probably bought too much 1/0 for my application, but too much is better than not enough.

Looks like I have a green light for picking up the power supply at the end of the month. I have been encouraged to apply for an Industrial Hygienist opening; it looks pretty promising, but I won't really know anything until next week. At any rate, Cynthia has said recruiting for the transit project will start in June. I communicated a slight delay in employment to my loan servicer, but they're willing to work with me as I have every intention of paying those student loans back.

I keep forgetting phase is time delay; I really had to do the math to convince myself. The Zapco DC-1101 will be perfect for the REA XXv2; I like the fact that it has two channels for easy parallel connections. Probably won't need to use the time delay, but it would be nice to cut and apply low Quality for the 40 Hz spectrum to remedy any resonance issues from the door to the mobile home. I'll keep the JLA 1200/1v3 for the W7 version 2 whenever it debuts and gets released.

So I'm going to order the power supply tomorrow. It will be nice to have in the mean time as it will be critical for my system. Probably will take several weeks to arrive in lieu of the manufacturing and shipping, but I'm excited nonetheless.

Hopefully, I should have some of the equipment functional by the time Straight Outta Compton gets released to video (October or November). I'm not entirely sure if I'll have the Polk floor standers by then; we'll see...

    My sentiments exactly Morgan Freeman.

    https://celebrity.yahoo.com/news/mor...142223417.html

Nas, I think I am going to withdraw from my decision to make a facebook account. Likely, I won't start up a YouTube channel either, but I'll make sure I can send you some videos when the system is all done.

The other day I see an article calling one mother of a rioter 'Mom of the Year' and 'Hero-Mom' on Twitter and other stupid networks. I'm sorry but I just refuse to blend in with sheeple that don't want to acknowledge the bigotry and brutality that are attributable to so many corrupt police departments. My brother Scott and I were harassed by police officers when we were growing up; particularly me because of my autism and being a vocal critic of the police. The only thing wrong I see with the riots is that they seemed to be randomized. If their riots were more directional as in targeting the officers responsible, I would commend their efforts.

My first school friend was Anthony, an African American. He is a far more sophisticated person than I am, he would very well handle this more peacefully than me. African American Lives matter! I wish so many of these f*cking people can pull their head out of the sand and ascertain just how morally corrupt and subconsciously racist they truly are. Anthony moved out of town in 1991, which was a very intelligent decision on his parents part. So many people in my home town in southern New Jersey were these antisemitic, racist individuals who also seemed to have an extreme prejudice toward autistic people like myself. I never befriended anybody like Anthony afterward. In chronological order, a hoity-toity honor student, some users, and some goofs that inevitably became enamored with control freaks pretty much comprised subsequent acquaintances.

    Anyway, end rant.

So the power supply is here.. I'll upload two images tomorrow.

I have some good leads for government work from Cynthia; perhaps in the next two months I should be working. Also had just thought of vo rehab in the middle of April for help in employment since I have Asperger's. Shoulda thought of going to vo rehab sooner, but oh well ... Always a first time for everything , LOL..

So here's some front and rear isometric views of the unit.

Turns out the ported wedge's output is MASSIVE. It occurred to me that when I was testing the system in my car, I still had a poor ground that was hindering its output. I recently made a temp setup in the RV for one minute and used one of the RV batteries. I needed a good bass tester and had my Eminem Show CD in the front of the RV. I just ran the power and ground to the engine compartment through an access in the floor. I didn't even make it past Business because it was pretty intense even at low volumes. The REA XX v2 seems VERY happy with 1 kW to 1.2 kW. However, I had undersized the port area with the net int volume in an attempt to get a low tuning frequency. Later this year in the fall when the temps are no longer in the triple digits, I'm going to take a heat gun and flare the ends of the port and see if that improves anything. If not, I'll put a 4 inch square slot in there and re-tune to 33 Hz to get more port area. A minor fix really, but the output is seriously impressive .

The unit is programmable up to 220A so I could put a Zap C2K-9.0XD on it if I wanted, but I don't think I'll ever need that much power, LOL .

    Kerfing to the RESCUE!!!

    Uggh!!! No 5 inch PVC in the schedule 40. Mother f*cker $%^& *@!#$ //<>>||{}[]\=+-!!

No prob, KERFING TO THE RESCUE!! I'm gonna kerf some mahogany and make myself a 5 inch ID port for my REA XX wedge. I'll kerf two more pieces for the ends, concentrically, to form the flares. 2.7 cubes and 19 sq. in. of area, bingo! Naturally people can't manufacture 5 inch ID but readily manufacture 3 inch ID, damn that's practical factorial, LOL.

As for the W7v2, if I want to use a wedge I really need something like 2.1 to 2.4 cu. ft regardless of recommendations. I'll see what I can come up with in WinISD based on the W7AE parameters. Would like to use a 4 inch ID aero, but if I have to settle on 2.3 cubes I guess I'll have more kerfing to do. No prob on the craftsman 21829.

    Hey Nas

If you are ever interested in using power supply units, there are units a lot cheaper than mine that work great. Look at the voltage ripple RMS as this is what usually manifests itself in the audio bandwidth. The voltage from the AC mains is sinusoidal; capacitors suppress the amplitude of the sine leading to less audible hum. The hum is a periodic residual from the AC mains. You'll be in business if you can find one that's 100 to 150 milliVolts noise and ripple. The power supply units for the old desk top computers pack a wallop. I saw a video of barevid's in the UK using a 175A unit to power a big amp and a Digital Designs subwoofer. Some of the manufacturers that are still around are Astron, Pyramid, ATX, etc; just Google DC power supply or car audio power supply. Circuit City, in the states, used several 100A Audio Authority units, but I'm not sure if Audio Authority is around anymore. In the states, Dereck BigDWiz has a programmable 18VDC/250ADC linear. There's two basic types: linear and switch mode. Linear usually has less than (<) 5 mV ripple, but one disadvantage is they create a lot of heat (they aren't efficient), creating a heat source as we call in thermodynamics. Plus, linear supplies have big transformers and are considerably heavier than switch modes. The switch mode doesn't create all that much heat (they're pretty efficient), lightweight (mine's 36 lbs), but usually have problems with noise and ripple if there is not adequate capacitance at each stage of the power supply. Yep, capacitors are actually useful for something, LOL. Car audio amplifiers and PC power supplies are examples of switch modes. Hence, the presence of capacitors.

I wanted an advanced switch mode to begin with; I had a big budget. The TDK 15-220 has 8 mV ripple with 60 mV noise & ripple peak-to-peak. For residential, you're looking at single phase. In the states a lot of the lower ampacity units are 120VAC, but mine is 240VAC to get to the 220A DC, so I have to install a 30A fuse/circuit breaker. Also, I'm going to buy a 240VAC surge protector to protect my unit given SoCal's Jurassic Park style wild ass storms. **Sigh**. In retrospect, I wish I pursued electrical engineering, but I did not make that realization until my junior year. By then, my student loans were starting to accumulate, they're so effing outrageous in my country, and I had just decided to stick to civil.

I had applied for my Engineer-In-Training certificate a few weeks ago. Unbeknowns to me, in some states it takes 3 months for the certificate to be issued. But, in the mean time I have electronic pdf proof that I passed the Fundamentals exam. I have applied to some transportation engineering places with that new piece of evidence, so now it's just waiting out the meandering applications submission process, LOL.

I've been so bored lately, I started writing a book. I titled it An Asperger's Individual's Manifesto. Instead of chapters it has pet peeves some of us with Asperger's have in common. The first peeve is about Superficiality and our hatred of it; it's public enemy numero uno for our pet peeves. The last chapter I entitled, The Entropy (Chaos) of the Universe Only Increases. In a nutshell it's basically a free-for-all peeve, but it also encapsulates our discontent for people who are ignoring the signs of global warming. Alternating Current has been in static limbo ever since the passing of Tesla. I explore the possibility that J. P. Morgan and our federal government had an arrangement to confiscate Tesla's blueprints to ensure the prosperity of Morgan's descendants' by receiving a revenue-percentage from the electric utilities. Alas, the perpetual wires and the elusiveness of the Tesla Coil and Tesla's radical idea to transmit alternating current via air by such coils and towers. Never again in history would such inventiveness dominate in EE and we are making that ozone hole bigger over Antarctica. In centuries, UV could be bad enough in places like South America where sun blocking umbrella's and vitamin D supplements would be necessary. LOL, Preview-Of-Coming Attractions, not to go off on a tangent or anything. I might publish it when I retire from CE, LOL, I don't know if the Fed's would like my conjectures.

Well it always winds up being a dissertation. L8er Nas.

Gotta good design going in WinISD; 6 cubes wedge, dual twelves, ported, compound chamber tuned to 27 Hz based on the 12W7AE-3's parameters. 7.5 dB gain at 29 Hz on the transfer function magnitude; good bump from the mid 20s to the mid 30s and flat the rest of the way. The nitrile butyl rubber surrounds on the version 2's would likely affect the Thiele Smalls params, but this design is a good place to start.

    After thought ...

Hey Nas, just as an after thought, the ripple voltage wouldn't matter tremendously should you ever decide to go this route. I happened to think, the objective of the dc power supply is to take the mains 120V down to an automotive voltage. I tended to get distracted by some of the discussions in other forums about ripple. So, like, the guys that have the CB Ham Radios that have no internal power supplies in their units, the ripple would be important. As it is, car amps have their own DC/AC and DC/DC converters with plenty of capacitance. I'm no EE, I really don't know what the audibility threshold is with ripple, but I imagine with an external psu powering an amp with its own psu inside, I guess it could be relatively high. Its kinda consistent with what Easy E and CV have educated us on; power is power. For instance, some people have OCD worse than me (LOL!) and actually believe a ripple down into the microVolts makes a 'discernible' difference in sound compared to a mlliVolt ripple (if their psu has a D/A converter). What bless-ed golden ears, right? My Eclipse HU does not have a D/A converter and sounds perfectly fine as far as I'm concerned. Come to think of it, my temporary charger/battery setup just had ground loop noise, but I figured it just was not practical to use it on a 1200 W amp.

I hear ya with the school in the email you sent me. School can certainly be a b*tch sometimes, LOL. As a matter of fact, there seems to be this tremendous disagreement between what employers value as significant qualifications and what schools value as significant qualifications for employment. Guess that's what happens when morons are in control of countries like ours, LOL. And then there's organizations like Autism Speaks that don't do sh*t for adults on the autism spectrum as far as employment is concerned. LOL, oh well.

Nas, whenever you move into a bigger place, I'll definitely be of service to you should you ever go the PSU route. L8er man.

Hell yeah! Got my first interview this week; it's federal so the benefits are superb.

I have to laugh at some of the other employers, though, like CalTrans. They prefer experience and wind up hiring asinine degenerates that play golf on company time. Really, who the f*ck are these employers kidding? LOL.

Nas, I had forgot a conversation I had with John Borge over at Zap. John uses a CAE APS 75 for his demo room; the acronym is Cascade Audio Engineering. My bad for not posting that sooner, but anything with John's stamp of approval is helluva good. When you start going beyond the 55 A DC supplies its always best to use a 20A branch, or make its own circuit back to the main panel. Later on, if you ever wanna try a psu, I can walk you through the process; its not differential geometry, LOL. My father has been an electrician for years so I have a lot of his advice, guidance, and experience with the empirical aspects. Don't be discouraged by discussions that suggest using a psu is dangerous. Those people, often times, don't know wtf they're doing, like running thin-gauge wire from the panel to the psu or drastically exceeding the psu's ampacity with no fusing on the load side.

I contemplated getting the CAE APS 100, but it isn't a model that's dual voltage capable. So I couldn't take the ceiling up to 14.2VDC if I wanted to run an unregulated amp. Plus, with the unit I wound up getting I can set it to Constant Voltage (CV) and the current adjusts with the load, which is pretty nice. Later on, when I get a house, I'll pick up a 10F cap to handle the transients if I ever decide to run two big 1 kW amps.

I saw it from your Email thanks. Nice to finally put a face to the name

I wasn't at first but after reading your posts again (when I'm not shattered from work), they make much more sense and you have converted me lol. I am not sure when I move but when I do, I will more then certainly bugging you about how to run my car audio in my house. In fact, it should sound really good and I don't even like too much bass anymore.

Seeing as you have access to vastly experienced electrician, I was wondering what (if any) would be the difference between between using a power supply in the UK as opposed to the U.S? Would everything still work the same? Knowing my luck...

There is a lot of support her for people with varied learning disabilities including Aspergers and Autism in general. I personally try my best to support people and I am even thinking of volunteering in a day centre for people with Autism and Asperbers but life is getting in the way yet.

Also, thank God my diploma is finished. It was so boring and long winded lol. I Emailed you around a month ago with an update about my install but I am assuming you have been busy and not had time to check/respond to it yet. Or you couldn't be bothered

Anyway, always nice speaking to you. Let me know how your job interview/job comes along.

Hey Nas, yeah we have 240VAC in the states. But let's say if you were 208VAC in the UK; you could still run 120VAC equipment off of 208. A Cascade would be perfectly fine for mids and highs. It's just when you're up into 55A DC, it's usually a good idea to use a 20A branch. The common deterrent with running converters is they're not an efficient use of AC, but those who argue that really don't understand Diversity. 'Diversity' meaning the current is not constantly flowing like in the case for refrigerators or air conditioning. Am I going to be watching TV, movies, and listening to music for 12+ hours a day? No, so why have that as a contention. Besides, even with transients in music, I would be using, at most, 50A (DC) ---> 5A (AC), for the volumes I would be listening to from my car audio equipment, and all those are just peaks and instantaneous burst.

I was really hoping I could find something suitable in pro audio amps, but, TBPH, I wasn't impressed. Among the stumbling blocks with the amps I researched included bridged stability only down to 4 Ohms (not good for unusual impedance), lack of subsonic filters (def not good for ported alignments), and retrograde power rating methods. XYZ W RMS @ 1 kHz; seriously? The 1980s called, they want their power rating method back, LOL. About the only closest thing I could find was Behringer, but there's talk on other forums that the RMS they post isn't necessarily RMS over a bandwidth (again, the retrograde 1 kHz testing...). Plus, much of the technical data is not displayed on their website adding a great deal of ambiguity as to what their units can actually do. Ehh... I'm ranting..

Yeah, stick with Cascade. The guy in barevids uses the old beefy Dell desktop psu's; they're pretty good for what they are. I was on Youtube looking for a vid with some equipment being powered by an industrial SMPS like mine. To my surprise, I found one where a guy was using an old TDK SCR 20-500 (3 phase; prob) powering a Cadance 7 kW RMS amp and a 15. Nice and quiet, not the slightest hint of voltage ripple. The Genesys replaced the SCR.

I'm actually waiting on a background check for the federal job I mentioned. Looks like I pretty much have the job at this point; just need a fix on the start date. A lot of my run-ins with LEOs happened when I was a lot younger, and I'll tell ya, being the kid with Aspergers was pretty much like being in a minority. Although, I can't say that I can comprehend even one, one trillionth of what Africans had endured for centuries; I've seen some pretty corrupt sh*t from the men in blue, so I share their disgust in the system. I'm not saying police are useless, but there's such a vast room for improvement in the system in the states. And as far as my driving record is concerned ... very clean. I'm part of the 0.00000001% of Americans that drives the speed limit and obey basic traffic rules everywhere I go. Tends to p*ss people off, but, hey, guess that's why my cars last long and theirs don't. Uggh!!! Gone off on a tangent, and it's 12:39AM; guess I'll post something tomorrow. L8er Nas.

Yep, I read your email Nas. My sister was in an apartment for 10 years; her neighbors would give Scott and I a ration of sh*t just by simply running around her apartment. Now she has a townhouse. Good thing she never really had an affinity for bass like I have. A lot of the stuff she listens to is devoid of bass, like Bon Jovi, LOL. Waa Waa Waa Woww Woww, LMAO.

Gosh, this thread could potentially grow to 10 pages, LOL. If the W7v2 has a new patent like the W6v3, I'm guessing this project would get finished February 2017. 'Spring quarter 2016 becomes Winter quarter 2017', LOL, patent pendings.

    All set. :-D

So looks like we can build the 230VAC circuit in mid to late December and have the power supply on a dedicated 240. I should be able to upload vids either at the end of the month or next year. Against better judgement, I'll start a Youtube, but I'm not going to go crazy @ss stupid preoccupied with it. I'll upload some vids; no f*cking comments of course...

Also I'm going to pick up some Precision Sound aeros' at Parts Express for my REson8er Wedge and Phantom Wedge sometime soon. The RV needs some repair work first; priorities.
