    Alpine 9827 owners: help me!

    Hi, I’m Giorgio from Italy.

I’ve just bought an Alpine 9827R ("R" version = antracite & green cosmetics, is it present on US market?).
The overall quality of the product seems to meet Alpine standard (this is the 3rd Alpine, the first “low-end” for me) and I’m quite satisfied.
My only complaint, for the moment, is the display brightness, that becomes annoying when driving at night.
Talking about 9827, many people mentioned a BLACKOUT function that turns the display off.
I did read the manual but I didn’t find anything about this function.
    Did I miss something?
Or is it possible there are small differences between models sold in US and those sold in Europe? It would be strange, but possible.

Alpine 9827 owners, please let me know how do you activate blackout function, so I can try if it works for me.

    Thank you in advance.

I am pretty sure that you cannot do this with the HU you have. You need a new Alpine with the I-personalize. I'm pretty sure but keep asking around.

    Someone says it's possible

    Go to http://www.epinions.com/content_135630261892.

He says "... Blackout doesn't black everything out -- only display, not buttons..."

I'd ask him, but I don't know how to contact him...

all I can find is this
Blackout Display Mode: When the Blackout mode is activated, the display turns off to reduce power consumption. The additional power made available by turning off the display helps enhance sound quality.
    thats on the US version.

Hi i just had my CDA-9827 installed it has a blue/white display. I read from your post that you have a green display so the one i have the CDA-9827 and the one you have CDA-9827R appears to have some differences. Anyway with my unit the Blackout Mode button is located just below the rotary encoder. You have to press and hold the B.out button for at least 3 seconds to activate the blackout mode. Check if you have that. It would be nice if you can post a snapshot of your unit.

I really like the CDA-9827 simple to use, reasonably priced and sound quality is superb. Though i do prefer the alpine geen buttons from the blues.
