    World Car of the Year

The Lexus LS 460 flagship takes home the honors besting the Audi TT and MINI Cooper.

The new Lexus flagship earns the top honor from the World Car of the Year jury over the other two finalists, the Audi TT and the MINI Cooper. Chosen from the initial ballot of 28 vehicles representing 28 countries from around the world, the LS 460 is an all-new design for 2007, as are the two other finalists, the Audi TT and the MINI Cooper.

In addition to the overall award, three other awards were presented: World Performance Car of the Year, World Green Car and World Car Design of the Year.

The Audi RS 4 was named World Performance Car and the other two finalists were the Porsche 911 Turbo and the BMW 330i. The Mercedes-Benz E320 Bluetec earned World Green Car honors, besting the BMW Hydrogen 7 and the Volkswagen Polo BlueMotion. The redesigned Audi TT was recognized as the Car Design of the Year.

“We are honored to receive this prestigious award recognizing the LS 460 as the ‘2007 World Car of the Year,’” said Bob Carter, Lexus group vice president and general manager. “From the outset, it was our goal to develop a luxury flagship vehicle that would be recognized as one of the finest cars in the world. The response to the LS 460 by our customers and awards such as this go a long way towards realizing our goal.”

The World Car of the Year award was created to recognize and honor excellence in the automotive market on an international scale. The objective of the World Car of the Year evaluations is to ensure a fair and thorough process that considers the needs and wants of consumers the world over.

The jury, comprised of 44 automotive journalists from 22 countries, began the process by evaluating and rating the candidates using a variety of standardized parameters, including styling, quality, performance and safety. In January 2007, the jurors voted to establish a list of ten finalists. The World Car of the Year was chosen from those finalists and the votes were tabulated by the international accounting firm KPMG.
