    Tempest

    Hello,

I've decided to buy a Tempest. But I don't know where to start when I try to look for amps cause there are so many. It confuses me greatly.

Only want to spend about $200 or less for the amp.

Thanks for any help you guys can provide.

Find an amp that fits your budget make sure it puts its max power at bridged mono at 4 ohms. So a good 125-150x2 or 350-450x1 will work fine. Stay away from brands like Pyle, Legacy Pyramid. A good place to check out good deals is www.ikesound.com and www.thezeb.com and sometimes www.sounddomain.com has good deals also.
    Thats my 2 cents.

    thank you sir.

now...another question if you don't mind. About boxes....I would like to run it in a ported or vented box. Is there a relativly easy way to calculate box dimensions? I downloaded WINISD, but I haven't got the chance to mess with it much yet. It does look a litte confusing though. I'll see what happens. btw...any tips on correctly using it?

    Thanks again.

I believe you mean ported or sealed boxes. A Tempest likes bigger ported boxes. Just play with WinISD, it's not all that hard to use.

Well here is a little excel thing I made a while back good for throwing in some diemensions real quick and getting some nice #s.

    http://www.easy-audio.com/boxprog.xls

As for ported box is the same as a vented box. I recomend around 4 cubes tuned to 28hz for SQL and tune it to 25hz for more SQ and 35 for more SPL. For port lengths I can calculate area and length for you but i need to know the tunning and box size so I can get that right. I am thinking about actually incorporating the port length and tunning in that box program but I will once i have some free time.
    Thats my 2 cents.

    Sweet...that was really helpful. Thanks
I think for box size, im looking at a box 30x18x17 which comes to about 4.2 cubic feet.
Tuned to about 28hz will work fine.

If there is anything else I forgot let me know.

    Thanks again.

How many are you planning on getting. One or Two. If one you should try and Isobaric box because you should be able to get the most output out of it.

Isobaric is really no more than a novel idea (that works) and it's only real application os in show cars. If you don't have enough room for two subs, and you have enough money to run two subs isobaric, then you have enough money to upgrade to something better that has the same output in the same size box out of one sub. I'll admit that Isobaric looks cool, but it's practical applications are almost nonexistant.
