    Series and Parallel Wiring

What is the difference between series and parallel wiring? is it just different ways to get difference impedances so amps can handle the load? im really confused and tryin to learn so any links to other sites/forums that explain this better would really help.

when wiring things in series, you add the resistance for every part of the chain you add. So if you have a 4 ohm speakers and hook another 4 ohm speaker to it, you'll end up with an 8 ohm final load.

With parallel wiring, the resistance gets cut in half. Take the same set of speakers, when wired together in parallel, you get a 2 ohm final load.

    series wiring is wired like so: + - + - + -

parallel wiring is wired so that all positives are wired together, and all negatives are wired together.

Here is an excellent link for checking your math when calculating the load for different speaker setups.
