Performance Chips and Computers

Do these things really work. I found one that actually works on my Truck, its a Toyota T100. I need a bit more power for towing but dont want to spend the money for the TRD supercharger. yea...they add some hp/tq for sure concidering your only getting a venom,hypertech,jet,etc...brand. hypertech has a plug in that you can adjust manualy and set to specific specs...cheaper also for some models. found that the quoted gains may be a little overrated (25 hp gain gave me only 18) but its an easy to do mod that works.

If that Venom unit is the one I think it might be, what it's doing is fooling the sensors, and running the engine a little more rich then stock. I may be wrong, but that's what alot of the other "modules" do. As far as the Jet, yea, it'll give you a little more poop, but it's not really adjustable. Hypertech seems to be the best computer "mod" out there, because you have a lot of options, like shift points (If you've got an automatic) raise top speed limiter (If you're stuck with that...I am), and increase rv-limiter if you are so inclined, and can go back to stock whenever you want, and as often as you want. I believe Superchips makes a similar product as Hypertech also. Everyone I know that has the Hypertech is really happy with it though. Have you done anything else to your truck to help out in the power department?

do you know if while using the hypertech you can program the car then remove it and settings will be saved or do you use it and leave it plugged in the entire time?

Ideally, a chip should be tailored to match other engine mods. Occasionally, you can bump a little more power from the stock engine, sometimes be reprogramming the timing which can make it need higher octane fuel. Normally, though, the cases where I'd recommend chips are turbo cars with computer controlled boost or custom-made chips (or tunable ECU's) for cars with serious mods (cams, for example).

The Hypertech programmer re-programmes your computer the way you set it. You don't leave it plugged in. It's not a chip, it's a programmer. And basically what it does is swaps your factory settings with the Hypertech settings you choose, so you can only mod one vehicle, unless you put yours back to stock, and then do a different car. If you tried to use one from someone else's car while theirs was still programmed, you'd just be putting in their factory settings, if it will even do that.

well..what i was thinking was to buy one for common local cars (civics,mustangs,etc) and charge $50 to program a car instead of them buying it for $350....wouldent work?

Nope...Sorry. A few of my friends wanted to buy one for our trucks, but Hypertech had already thought of that. And each programmer is also model specific, so one that works on a '94 Mustang, won't work on a '99 Mustang, much less a Civic.

but say i had 6 1998 mustangs...1 programmer do them all?

Sorry, havn't been around for a while, but no, one programmer will do one car. You COULD do all 6, but 5 would be stock at any given time. So you can program one stang, drive it around, then plug the hypertech back in, put it back to stock, then do another mustang. But you couldn't have anymore then one modified mustang per programmer at any one time, so if you wanted 6 modified mustangs, you'd need 6 programmers.
